Research Scientist Placement

You will be working projects that include the largest Clinical Research Study of its kind ( EMPOWER-1). This study is designed to reduce health inequalities that exist between ethnic populations in the UK (https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03987633).

You will need to be trained as a Research Scientist. On completing your induction and training, you can start independently carry out indepth data analysis, with continued team-debriefs. There is a requirement that daily activity tables are electronically sent to the Director.

We offer two unpaid placement opportunities:

  • Summer placement (between June – September 2022). This role is open for any interested applicants.
  • 12-month Undergraduate placement (starting summer 2022). This role is ONLY open for undergraduate students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The work requires attention to detail and a scientific mind to extract the key information from different sets of data, which may include scientific papers and reports.
  • You will also be directed to specific pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenomics resources as well as molecular biology and drug databases.
  • You will be required to extract, review and analyse key data and then populate that in pre-formatted report files.
  • You will present your findings with the team to discuss any similarities/differences

Skills that the young person will develop:

  • You will have gained skills working as a Research Scientist, which opens up opportunities to working different roles in the field of scientific and medical research.
  • You may also develop key transferrable skills such as effectively communicating with a broad range of people as well as gaining confidence to presenting to the team audience.
  • You will gain the skill to accurate analyse and identify trends within the data extracted.
