Examples of this inequality will be discussed, as will what people are and can be doing to alleviate these inequalities. The panel will discuss, among other things:

• the causes of current inequalities in the UK and USA

• what can be done to alleviate these inequalities

• regional initiatives in place to overcome this, and their effectiveness

Hope you can join the discussion.

The festival of genomics has been organised by front line genomics and they have created this fantastic conference that addresses key issues in the field. It is one of the biggest genomics events in Europe where 2000 attendees are expected based on previous attendances, there will be over 50 exhibitors including companies such as Illumina. There is an impressive list of speakers that represent stakeholders across industry, healthcare, and the research setting. The event organisers have stated that the event is made up of the best speaker line-up yet. As well as Dr Kamran there are other speakers including James O’Shaughnessy who is the minister for the department of health and social care, Dame Fiona Caldicott who heads up the governments national data guardian, and Dr Sue Hill from NHS England.

In addition to this several our Future Genetics researchers will be attending the event, including myself. I look forward to meeting friends and meeting new people who are just as passionate about making a difference as me.
