Epilepsy – Treatments

There are effective treatments that can either stop or reduce the frequency of seizures in most patients. These include:

  1. Anti-epileptic drugs, which represent the main treatment for this condition.
  2. Removing small sections of the brain that a responsible for the seizures.
  3. A surgical procedure that inserts a small electrical device inside the body. The device may help by controlling seizures that may be initiated in the brain.
  4. Modifying diet such as the “ketogenic diet”.

As mentioned earlier these seizures may resolve over time for some people whereas in others they continue. Clearly patients that no longer experience seizures may stop taking medicines under their supervision of their doctor.
