How to check whether you have type 2 Diabetes

Because the signs and symptoms of the earlier stages of type 2 diabetes can be missed, diabetics only get diagnosed by chance when their doctor gets results back from a blood or urine test for another purpose.

Ideally, we would like to empower you to recognise warning signs that might indicate type 2 diabetes. the doctor can then carry out proper tests to either confirm or rule out diabetes. your doctor will generally do three things:

  1. Ask you about your symptoms.
  2. Carry out a urine check and send your blood sample so that the glucose levels can be measured. The blood test results are normally back with the doctor within one to two days.
  3. If a person has diabetes they will be asked to visit their GP to discuss the test results and then decide on an action plan to keep the patient well.
