My name is Alice and I am a research scientist. Today I am going to summarise type 2 diabetes. I’ll begin by giving you an overview of the disease and then move on to talk about the symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment and complications that are associated with type 2 diabetes.
Many people develop this disease and this results in too much glucose, which is a type of sugar, to build up in the blood. This build up can lead to symptoms such as being excessively thirsty, passing urine frequently, and feeling tired a lot. Other symptoms are a consequence of serious problems that affect the heart, eyes and nerves.
Type 2 diabetes is a lifelong disease that unfortunately can impact how a person lives their life. In order to protect your health changes often need to be made to your diet and medicines are required to keep you well.
As I mentioned type 2 diabetes is associated with a build up of glucose in the blood. The build up is caused by a reduced ability or insulin to allow glucose to enter the body’s cells. The development of this disease is though to be due to multiple reasons that include being overweight, lack of exercise, as well as a person’s genetic makeup.
