COPD – Symptoms

The tell-tale symptoms suggestive of COPD include

  • Becoming increasingly breathless, especially when the person is performing exercise or physical activities
  • A persistent chesty cough that produces phlegm. this particular symptom is sometimes ignored by the patient as simply being ‘smokers cough’ this is why a proportion of people are unaware they have COPD
  • The person is prone to frequent chest infections
  • The person suffers from wheezing most of the time

As I mentioned there are treatments that can control the symptoms of COPD however if the condition is left untreated the patients symptoms progressively get worse over a period of time. Sometimes the person may have sudden worsening of symptoms that is sometimes referred to as a COPD flare up or exacerbation.
