Coronary Heart Disease – Heart Function
Coronary Heart Disease – Heart function
The heart as an organ
As I mentioned earlier the function of the heart is to pump blood around the body. Therefore, the composition and structure of the heart reflects the function. The heart is a muscle that is more or less the size of a closed fist. In order to effectively more blood around the body the heart contracts around 70 times per minute.
Symptoms associated with coronary heart disease
Coronary heart disease or CHD presents itself differently in different people. The most common symptom or presentation of CHD is a type of chest pain that doctors call angina. Some people may also experience heart palpitations and unexpected breathlessness. There is also a group of people that have CHD but do not show any symptoms up until the point they are diagnosed.
