Asthma – Asthma Attacks

As I mentioned in the first section of this module, asthma is a serious condition which should not be taken lightly.
Statistics show that three people die of an asthma attack in the UK every single day. This unfortunate statistic is based on the fact that deaths caused by an asthma attack are avoidable,
Another statistic is that one person has a potentially life threatening asthma attack every ten seconds.

The UK charity asthma UK have developed an asthma attack risk checker. I would advise a person to please visit their website so that they can see the likely level of risk. This said it is also important that a person also visits their GP or specialist asthma nurse if there is any concern about their asthma

As I have said in a previous section of this module, proper awareness of triggers, adherence to preventer inhaler medicines and timely use of reliever inhalers are some key actions that need to be followed to reduce the risk of asthma symptoms and attacks. As a minimum it is recommended that a person visits their GP once a year about their asthma.
